The Mission

We reveal what's already possible: nourishing ourselves in reciprocity with the land, not extraction from it. Veganism isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle, and food is just where it becomes visible. From upcycled kitchen tools to local, organic, often self-grown ingredients, everything we do reflects that relationship.

The Vision

A world where people, animals, and the land are woven back together, each in reciprocity with the other, and living this way feels easy, natural, and open to everyone.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

20250820_161808_edited_edited.jpg

A lifestyle, not a diet

What's on the plate is one visible piece of something bigger: how we source, how we discard, how we relate to the land and to each other.

We're not here to shame anyone for eating the way they were raised to eat. Almost none of us chose this system — we inherited it. We are full of love and enthusiasm to show you there's another way to live in it.

Our Values

Reciprocity over extraction — in our ingredients, our tools, our waste, our relationships.

Compassion, always — for animals, the planet, and anyone still unlearning what they were taught.

Courage to stand apart — we'd rather be the rainbow in the field than match the flock.

Growth beyond ourselves — our win is this spreading so far it stops needing us at all.

KJ Haugen

Rooted in the earth, fed by heart, driven by soul.

KJ grew up loving to cook in a meat N’ potatoes part of Canada, the kind of place where you didn't ask why, you just did. That never quite sat right, though it took years to understand what to do with that feeling. As a kid, she questioned the systems and people in charge before she had words for what felt off, and something about sorting recycling and getting lost in Grandpa Bill's garden planted an early, quiet sense that humans aren't the only beings who matter.

She carried that instinct into corporate and government jobs later on, into its boys' clubs, where she found herself pushing for real human rights change, in rooms built to protect power rather than question it.

That cost her more than she expected. It also taught her something she's still sitting with: change makers usually get called difficult, crazy, or too much, right up until the change they were pushing for becomes normal. It also showed her something she couldn't unsee: the same logic that decides which people get power and which get overlooked is the same logic that decides which beings get to be seen as someone, and which get reduced to a product.

The Journey

That process led to a vegan food delivery business in Edmonton with former partner Jeff, and eventually a move to a small Gulf Island, where living in relationship with the land and ocean became part of her healing, giving her space to process years of abuse and work through depression.

If any of this sounds familiar, if you've felt alone in noticing these things, or tired from pushing against systems that weren't built for you, she wants you to know you're not the only one. That's a lot of what this is: sharing food, ideas, and honest conversation, imperfectly and in progress, as a way of building real community.

She dreams of one day stewarding a piece of land to grow food, host anti-oppression spaces for humans and animals, and permanently protect a portion of it as a sanctuary that can never be developed or extracted from. She doesn't have it all figured out. If any part of this resonates, whether you want to cook, grow, organize, or just talk, she'd love to hear from you.
